The brief
A two-bedroom home with a study, balancing artistic expression with practical living. The design called for a material palette that would complement its coastal setting, including rough-sawn vertical cypress timber cladding over Monument-coloured blueboard.
The approach
Set on a compact corner block, the layout was refined to make the most of the natural light while retaining as much of the existing landscape as possible. The surrounding environment was carefully protected throughout construction to ensure it continued to flourish beyond completion.
We chose Gilpip to design and build our new home in Flinders. The experience was top class from start to finish. Everyone in the company was easy to deal with and focused on creating the best outcome for us. The process ran smoothly, stayed on budget, and finished on time. We ended up with a new home we love; it is different to any other place in Flinders, and we love it. And judging from the comments we get from friends and neighbours, others love it too. Very happy.
The outcome
A striking custom home defined by a unique blend of materials and finishes. Inside, plywood feature doors, engineered timber floors, dark two-pack and raw plywood cabinetry, plywood-framed mirrors and recycled timber beams used as picture rails add depth and character. Outside, Spantec steel shade battens sit above timber pergola beams and posts, adding a sense of warmth and charm.
